The 1st International Scientific Conference on “Sustainable Solutions to Wastewater Management-Maximizing the Impact of Territorial Cooperation” was a big success thanks to all of you who participated.
The event held in Kavala from 19 to 21 June, demonstrated that Natural Treatment Systems represent a reliable and competitive alternative to conventional wastewater treatment systems, whose value was recognized by key actors and decision makers, well beyond the geographic area covered by the WASTEnet project partnership.
The event statistics bear this out:
* Conference Registered Participants: 261. This figure includes
i) approximately 40 participants from 10 countries,
ii) approximately 10 participants from two other EU-funded projects, having similar focus,
iii) about 50 key decision makers and staff from 15 Municipal Water and Sewerage Enterprises, and
iv) representatives of the Managing Authorities of Territorial Cooperation Programmes and the Black Sea Programme
* there were an additional estimated 100 participants representing the entire spectrum of the local and regional institutional and social scene. It is noteworthy that all 4 local MPs were present as well the Mayor of the host city and the Deputy Regional Governor, something that could decisively help promote the introduction and implementation of measures designed to support the construction of natural treatment systems
* Overall, 35 scientists gave 43 oral presentations,
* Another 12 researchers presented their work in the poster session
Livestreaming of the Conference enabled people from around the globe to follow conference activities while some the videos of the presentations are now available on You Tube
In addition all presentations are now published on the conference website http://wastenet2015.org/ and more material will be published soon on the WASTEnet project website http://www.waste-net.info/ .
Keep in contact and hope to be able to work with all of you for the promotion of sustainable solutions based on world class expertise and of local relevance.
